On June 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the activities of the Navbahor Football Academy during his visit to Namangan region. The presidential press service reported this.
It was noted that during the visit, the head of state inspected the conditions created at the Navbahor Academy in Namangan, whose management has been transferred for three years to the famous Ajax Football Academy of the Netherlands.
Published photos also show Temur Kapadze, the former head coach of Uzbekistan’s national team. He is currently managing Namangan’s Navbahor club.
As is known, Temur Kapadze was the head coach of the national team ahead of the World Cup. However, the Uzbekistan Football Association decided to appoint Italian specialist Fabio Cannavaro to the position for the tournament.
Initially, reports circulated that Kapadze would work as part of the national team’s coaching staff at the World Cup. Later, it became known that the specialist himself had not accepted the offer.
Temur Kapadze’s name had recently been mentioned less often in the media due to a break in the domestic championship. However, his appearance at the academy during the President’s visit, and the fact that this came on the eve of the important match between Uzbekistan and Portugal, attracted the attention of football fans.
Many fans still believe that Temur Kapadze should have led the national team at the World Cup.
At the end of the visit, issues related to further developing football in the country, supporting talented young players and increasing the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s national team on the international stage were discussed.
