Reports circulated on social media claiming that cotton harvesters in Uzbekistan would receive 1,800 soums per kilogram of cotton. The Ministry of Agriculture has denied these claims and clarified the official pricing policy.

According to the ministry, this year’s rates are as follows:

  •  1,373 soums per kilogram for cotton harvested by machine;
  •  2,000 soums per kilogram for cotton harvested by hand.

The 2,000-soum rate is a recommended price, while the practice of negotiating prices between clusters, farm managers, and harvesters remains in place.

Additionally, the government will allocate a subsidy of 1,000 soums per kilogram of cotton from the state budget to help cover cultivation costs.

The ministry stressed that this pricing system is designed to protect farmers’ interests, encourage harvesters’ work, and ensure stability in the agricultural sector.

“The claim that ‘1 kg costs 1,800 soums,’ circulating on social media, is false and not backed by any official documents. Cotton harvest prices are announced only through official sources. Spreading unverified information may mislead the public and can result in liability under current legislation,” the ministry said.

For comparison, in 2024, hand-picked cotton was priced at 2,500 soums per kilogram, with 2,000 soums provided by the State Agricultural Support Fund and 500 soums covered by clusters. Payments were distributed directly to harvesters in the fields.
