On August 4, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, upon his arrival in the city of Turkmenbashi, held a meeting with the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The news was reported by the presidential press service.

At the beginning of the conversation, the Uzbek leader warmly congratulated Berdimuhamedow on the successful hosting of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, noting that the issues on the conference agenda are of great importance for the sustainable development of the region.

In line with the agreements reached during their meeting in Samarkand this past April, the two sides discussed urgent issues concerning the further strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen good-neighborly relations and strategic partnership. It was noted with satisfaction that multifaceted cooperation—based on principles of friendship, mutual trust, and shared interests—is steadily expanding.

As part of preparations for upcoming high-level meetings, it is planned to hold sessions of intergovernmental commissions, the Business Council, the Forum of Regions, as well as several cultural events.

The parties also exchanged detailed views on the agenda of the UN conference and the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, which is scheduled to be held in Tashkent this fall.

For reference, trade turnover between the two countries has reached $600 million since the beginning of the year. Bilateral cooperation continues to deepen across various sectors, including industry, energy, transport, agriculture, and water management. The two countries are jointly establishing the “Shovot-Tashovuz” border trade zone, while active interregional ties and humanitarian exchanges are also being strengthened.

As previously reported, President Mirziyoyev arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
