A former customs officer living in the Kashkadarya region has been acquitted after 19 years, the Supreme Court’s press secretary reported.

According to the case documents, Husniddin Choriyev, while serving as a senior inspector at the Surkhandarya Customs Department, was accused of colluding with a group of individuals to illegally transport a large quantity of mandarins. They allegedly concealed the goods from customs in the cargo declaration, abusing their official position to facilitate the transfer, and thereby avoided paying the required state duties. Choriyev was charged with abusing his office and causing significant damage to state and public interests.

The Supreme Court’s press secretary reported that the 2006 October 31 verdict of the Karshi city court and the 2006 December 27 appellate decision of the Kashkadarya regional court in Husniddin Choriyev’s criminal case have been overturned.

Following the ruling of the Kashkadarya regional court’s criminal panel on September 22 of this year, Choriyev has been acquitted.

It is worth noting that earlier, a captain who was wrongfully convicted 15 years ago for leaving a military unit or post without authorization was also acquitted.
