Head of company that mined gravel from Chirchik River sentenced to 6 years in prison

The head of a company that illegally extracted sand and gravel from the Chirchik River has been sentenced to six years in prison. This was reported by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
According to the ministry, the Akkurgan District Court of Tashkent Region reviewed the case of S.I., the head of LLC “G.S.,” who was found to have unlawfully mined sand and gravel.
On the night of November 7, 2024, a joint operation was carried out by the regional Department of Ecology, the prosecutor’s office, and law enforcement agencies. During the raid, sand and gravel extraction was discovered in a protected area of the Chirchik River.
Further investigation revealed that the extracted materials were being transported to a crushing plant operated by LLC “G.S.”
The Akkurgan District Criminal Court found S.I. guilty under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime penal colony. In addition, the court ordered the offender to pay 431,380,664 soums in damages to the state and a fine of 38,280,000 soums.
It is worth noting that an indefinite moratorium on raw material extraction in certain water bodies, including the Chirchik River basin, has been in effect since May 1, 2024.
