Deputy governor detained with $12,000 bribe in Bukhara region

A deputy governor of Kogon district in Bukhara region was detained while receiving a $12,000 bribe. This was reported by the State Security Service.
According to the report, the deputy governor was caught red-handed by officers of the State Security Service and the Prosecutor’s Office while receiving $12,000 through extortion by abusing his official position.
It was found that a farmer engaged in agriculture on a contractual basis in Bukhara district had appealed to the deputy governor for help in supplying water to crop fields located in the Qum Sulton area, after water coming through Kogon district had been cut off.
The official allegedly said he would restore the water supply to the crop fields and ensure there would be no further problems in this regard. In return, he demanded $15,000.
A criminal case has been opened against the deputy district governor under Article 210, Part 2, Clauses “b” and “v” of the Criminal Code, which concerns taking a bribe. He has been remanded in custody.
Earlier, the head of a cadastral department in one of Andijan region’s districts was caught receiving a $3,000 bribe in exchange for allocating land.
