Uzbekistan national team captain Eldor Shomurodov emphasized ahead of the match against Congo in the final round of the World Cup group stage that the team’s main goal is to secure its first victory of the tournament. Shomurodov spoke about this at a pre-match press conference.
According to the experienced striker, the players’ greatest desire is to make Uzbek fans happy.
“Our main goal is to make our people, who are supporting us, happy. We scored our first goal, and now our task is to achieve our first victory at the World Cup,” Shomurodov said.
The national team captain also stressed that the team must think not only about attack, but also about defense.
“We must not forget about defense either. While trying to score, we cannot leave the back line unattended. First of all, it is important to win. To do that, we need to show an organized and disciplined game,” he said.
Eldor Shomurodov also separately noted that the support of the fans has been a great source of strength for the players.
“Our fans gave us great strength. We felt the support not only of those in the stadium, but also of our fans in Uzbekistan. We are endlessly grateful to them, and in the next match we will do our best to make them happy,” Shomurodov said.
Earlier, it was reported that the match between Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo will begin tomorrow, June 28, at 4:30 Tashkent time. To continue its World Cup campaign, Uzbekistan must defeat its opponent by a five-goal margin. Any victory will be enough for DR Congo to qualify for the playoffs.
