A section of the "Korabogsoy" bridge in Angren, Tashkent region, collapsed on May 13, affecting traffic along the A-373 highway. The Committee on Roads has provided an official statement addressing the incident.
At approximately 8:00 PM, the pedestrian walkway on the last section of the bridge gave way, leading to temporary restrictions on vehicular movement. Traffic was rerouted to the D-019 "Angren Bypass" road.
Experts from the "Uzyulko‘rik" cluster’s diagnostics team conducted a rapid inspection, identifying the following issues:
- Material deterioration of the bridge beams is affecting their load-bearing capacity.
- Excessive surface layer thickness, adding extra weight beyond design limits;
- Lack of structural integrity, with beams functioning as separate elements rather than a unified structure;
- Water damage caused corrosion, as cracks and drainage issues led to further deterioration;
Authorities have deemed the bridge’s technical condition unsatisfactory, necessitating complete reconstruction to prevent future failures.
Since the road is classified as a category I highway, the bridge does not fully meet traffic demands, often resulting in congestion. Experts recommend building a modern bridge that aligns with A-14 and NK-100 standards.
The "Korabogsoy" bridge was originally built in 1969 by MSU-14 trest UZ Moststroy and underwent reconstruction in 1995. Its current dimensions include a total length of 66.6 meters, with a three-span structure and a height of 4.80 meters.
Authorities continue to assess the full extent of necessary repairs and infrastructure enhancements, with further updates expected.
