The first stage of reconstruction at Andijan Airport has been completed, and regular flights have resumed. This was reported by Uzbekistan Airports.
On March 20, Andijan International Airport welcomed its first passenger flight, US601. The aircraft, carrying 63 passengers, landed at 12:13 Tashkent time. Following tradition, the plane was greeted with a water cannon salute, while passengers were welcomed with the sounds of trumpets and horns.
Andijan Airport was closed on April 1, 2023, for a complete reconstruction and modernization of its airfield complex. The airport’s runway, taxiway, and apron—measuring 2,985 meters in length and 44 meters in width—required reconstruction due to prolonged service life and low load-bearing capacity. Restrictions had been in place for accepting many types of aircraft, and nighttime operations were not possible due to the absence of a modern lighting system.
On March 15, the first stage of the reconstruction was completed. This phase included significant upgrades to the airfield complex, such as the construction of a new category 4E runway measuring 3,300 meters in length and 60 meters in width, one taxiway, and an apron with three aircraft parking spaces.
