Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who recently returned to Tashkent after participating in the World Chess Olympiad, is set to compete in the Vugar Gashimov Memorial Tournament in Shusha, Azerbaijan, according to the competition's official page.
Abdusattorov will be joined by prominent players such as Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mamedov, and Aydin Suleymanli (all from Azerbaijan), Vladislav Artemiev and Ian Nepomniachtchi (both representing FIDE), Richard Rapport (Hungary), and Aravindh Chithambaram (India) at the 10th edition of the tournament, which begins today, September 26, and runs until September 30.
It's worth mentioning that Abdusattorov won this tournament in 2022, while Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen holds the record for the most wins, with four titles to his name.
The tournament is held annually in memory of the legendary Azerbaijani chess player and European champion, Vugar Gashimov. This year's event will feature both rapid and blitz formats, with a total of ten participants.
