Earlier, it was reported that 174 trees were cut down in violation of the moratorium requirements in Tashkent’s Yakkasaray district. Following this incident, a criminal case has been opened against the landscaping workers. This was announced by Rasul Kusherbayev, Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

On October 25, 2025, a total of 174 trees and bushes located along the roadside at the intersection of Nukus and Babur streets in the Yakkasaray district were cut down, causing damage to nature estimated at 1 billion 460 million 952 thousand soums.

On November 8, a criminal case was initiated against officials of the landscaping department and others under Article 198, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (illegal cutting of forests, trees, or other plants that causes significant damage).

It was established that a total of 174 trees were cut, resulting in environmental damage worth 1 billion 463 million 952 thousand soums.

’’The irony is that the deputy mayor of the city, Bakhtiyor Rahmonov, who gave the order to cut the trees, once again remains untouched. Instead, the landscaping workers who only followed orders — and have no protection — are the ones being held accountable. This is sheer injustice,’’ Rasul Kusherbayev stated.

At present, investigative actions are underway.
