A driver has been arrested in the Samarkand region after striking a traffic police officer with their vehicle. The incident was reported by the Road Safety Information Service.

According to reports, on January 31, a traffic police officer on duty at Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street in Samarkand city signaled the driver of an Onix with an unknown license plate to stop. Despite the officer’s visible signal and whistle, the driver ignored the request and drove into the officer, causing injury before fleeing the scene.

The driver later explained, “At 8:00 p.m., I was returning home from Payarik in my car. When I was coming from the microdistrict, I saw the officer and stopped. However, when he asked me to exit the car, I drove away instead. The officer put his hands on the hood to stop me, but I didn’t hear the honking of other vehicles, and I didn’t stop. I regret my actions and ask for forgiveness.”

The Samarkand city prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 140 (violation of equal rights of citizens) and Part 3 of Article 219 (resistance to a representative of the authorities) of the Criminal Code. The driver was detained, and a precautionary measure of arrest was applied. Preliminary investigations are ongoing.

In a similar case, a Cobalt car recently hit a road patrol officer in the Jondor district of the Bukhara region, and the driver was arrested.
