Deputy mayor in Jizzakh caught taking bribe (video)

The deputy mayor of the Forish district in Jizzakh region was caught taking a $20,000 bribe, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, he abused his authority by demanding $30,000 to prevent 204 hectares of irrigated land, acquired through auction by an LLC specializing in agriculture, from being returned to the district administration’s reserve. He also promised to guide the future use of the land in June this year. The official demanded $20,000 immediately and $10,000 after the harvest.

The deputy mayor was arrested red-handed while accepting $20,000 in his car.

A criminal case has been initiated against the official under Articles 168 (fraud), part 4, paragraph “a,” and 211 (bribery), part 3, paragraph “a,” of the Criminal Code, and pretrial detention has been imposed. Investigative proceedings are currently underway.
