Driver in Jizzakh hits two sisters, arrested after fatal accident

Earlier, it was reported that a Cobalt driver in Jizzakh region hit 13-year-old and 4-year-old sisters while they were crossing the road at a designated pedestrian crossing. The driver who caused the traffic accident and the deaths of the sisters has been arrested, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, at around 19:30 in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region. A.O., born in 1991, who was under the influence of alcohol, was driving a Cobalt car in the direction of "Usmat" when he struck two minor pedestrians—13-year-old I.M., born in 2011, and her sister, 4-year-old I.K., born in 2020—who were crossing the road at a designated crossing. The driver fled the scene.

As a result of the accident, the sisters suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The case was heard in the Bakhmal District Court. According to the court's verdict, the driver was deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 3 years and was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay 145 million sums in moral and material damages to the victims' legal heirs.

It should be recalled that earlier, a driver who was intoxicated and hit three people in the city of Karshi, Kashkadarya region, causing the death of one of them, was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
