“We're losing $ 9 billion a year.” Mirziyoyev gives a low mark to the attention of leaders' in science

Today, the fiber processing capacity in Uzbekistan has reached 1.3 million tons, but the country produces 1 million tons of fiber every year.  This was announced today, 28 June, by the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a video-conference devoted to measures to increase exports of textile products based on deep processing of cotton and the increase of cotton production through knowledge-intensive seed production and agrotechnology.

According to the president, 300,000 tons of fiber are missing.  Over the next five years, this demand will increase by another 600,000 tons.  Of these, synthetic fibers will amount to 300,000 tons, and at least 300,000 tons of cotton fibers will be needed.

“Why does Turkey produce almost the same amount of fiber as us, even though its cotton area is half that of ours?  The main reason for this is the low level of attention and responsibility of local leaders in science and modern technologies”, - said the president.

The Head of State also talked about the state of processing.  According to him, the degree of processing yarn into finished products in the country is 23%.  As a result, there is a loss of 9 billion dollars each year.

It was noted at the meeting that if officials work properly with district and cluster governors, there is an opportunity to easily increase the number of jobs in the textile industry from the current 400,000 to 1 million.
