Historical trends: What is January typically like in Uzbekistan?
January is not always the coldest month in Uzbekistan. According to meteorological data, December has sometimes been colder than January, as observed during the 2002-2003 winter. Similarly, February was the coldest month in the 2013-2014 winter season.
Typically, January is marked by alternating periods of warmth and cold. It is rare for January to remain cold throughout the entire month. Notable cold Januarys include those in 1969 and 2008, when temperatures were 8-12°C below the normal average across much of the country. In recent years, however, warmer Januaries have become more frequent, with the coldest Januaries of the 21st century occurring in 2006 and 2023, with temperatures 4-7°C below normal.
