Salaries of governors, government employees to rise under new decree

On October 6, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis held its next meeting, the press service of the Legislative Chamber reported.

The meeting considered the draft law “On Amendments and Addenda to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan” in its first reading. It was noted that the main purpose of the draft is to increase the responsibility and accountability of government members and heads of local executive authorities in combating corruption, as well as to enhance the effectiveness of their work in this area.

According to the draft law, candidates for the position of khokim, when their candidacy is considered in the relevant Kengashes of People’s Deputies, will be required to submit an action plan to prevent corruption in the region, in addition to a program for the region’s socio-economic development.

It is also stipulated that candidates for positions in the Cabinet of Ministers, when their candidacy is considered and approved by the Legislative Chamber, will have to present a plan of measures to prevent corruption within the system, along with their proposed activity program.

It was emphasized at the meeting that the adoption of the draft law would further increase the responsibility of individuals nominated for leadership positions to carry out public service based on the principles of openness and accountability. Following discussions, the draft law received support.

The issues on the agenda were discussed in detail, and the relevant decision was adopted.

It is worth noting that a draft presidential decree aimed at improving the activities of district and city khokimiyats was previously developed. Under the proposed changes, the number of deputy khokims is expected to be reduced.
