Marigold Bowser, the mayor of Washington, D.C., officially declared September 1 as the "Independence Day of Uzbekistan" in the U.S. capital, recognizing the 33rd anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. This announcement was made by the "Dunyo" news agency.

"The city of Washington, as the capital of the United States of America, acknowledges with great respect the independence of Uzbekistan and its significance on the global stage," said Mayor Bowser.

"Declaring September 1 as the Independence Day of Uzbekistan in the U.S. capital is a testament to the strengthening of relations between our two countries. The cooperation established in recent years exemplifies our strategic partnership and fosters further collaboration in various sectors," the mayor added.

According to the special statement, the U.S. and Uzbekistan are expanding robust, mutually beneficial cooperation in numerous areas, including border and regional security programs, cultural and humanitarian initiatives, and English language education. The extensive economic and political reforms undertaken by Uzbekistan are also receiving strong support.

For reference, last year, September 1 was officially recognized in Washington as the "32nd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan."
