The total external debt of the Republic of Uzbekistan decreased by 1.8% or 721.5 million dollars compared to the beginning of 2022 (39.6 billion dollars).  From 1 April of the current year, it amounted to 38.8 billion dollars.  This is stated in the comments from the Central Bank.

In the first quarter of 2022, taking into account the net decline in state external debt, exchange rates, and the changes in prices, it declined by 1.5% or US$345.4 million to US$23.4 billion at the end of the reporting period.  This was due to the repayment of state-guaranteed debts of non-financial enterprises and the fall in the market value of government securities at the end of the reporting period.

As of 1 April 2022, private external debt amounted to $15.5 billion, performing at 2% or $376 million decrease compared to early 2022, mainly due to banks.  The decline was mainly due to the repayment of debt obligations by banks, the energy sector (oil and gas), and the mining and metallurgical industries, as well as falling stock prices in financial markets.
