Uzbek driver attempts to smuggle Toyota Cars by wrapping them in toilet paper

8468An Uzbek citizen attempted to smuggle three Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles into Belarus by disguising them as a shipment of toilet paper. This incident was reported by the Customs Service of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Uzbek driver declared that he was transporting a truckload of toilet paper weighing 720 kg. However, customs officials grew suspicious and decided to X-ray the semi-trailer.
"A close inspection of the semi-trailer, which was packed with toilet paper boxes along the back and sides, revealed three hidden vehicles. In total, three Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs were found. An attempt was made to smuggle the cars abroad illegally," stated the customs report.
The driver expressed surprise at the discovery, claiming he did not know about the hidden cargo. The vehicles, valued at 87,000 euros in total, were seized by customs officers. The driver was released on bail, and an investigation has been launched. As a result, the truck driver has been required to sign a written commitment not to leave the country.
According to Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Lithuania, the driver could face a fine or imprisonment for up to 8 years.
