Court fines Turkish citizen for smuggling ammunition into Samarkand

A Turkish citizen has been sentenced after attempting to smuggle ammunition through customs control at Samarkand Airport. The court document was reviewed by QALAMPIR.UZ, reveals the details of the case.

The individual, identified as I.Yu., a 24-year-old male born in 2000, was a crew member of Turkish Airlines. On November 19, 2024, he took possession of a piece of ammunition labeled "24 SAR P9" in Istanbul, Turkey, and placed it in his handbag.

On November 24, 2024, while traveling on the "Istanbul-Samarkand" flight, I.Yu. was stopped by border customs officers as he attempted to smuggle the ammunition through customs in Samarkand. The ammunition was seized as material evidence and documented accordingly. Forensic chemical examination confirmed that the 9 mm caliber cartridge was manufactured for use in Yargina (Grach) and Glock weapons.

In court, I.Yu. fully admitted his guilt, stating that he had purchased 10 rounds of ammunition for use at a training ground, but was unaware that one round had remained in his bag.

The court found I.Yu. guilty under Part 1 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code and imposed a fine of 100 times the minimum wage (37.5 million soums) under Article 57 of the Criminal Code.
