Number of lonely elderly people in Uzbekistan was revealed

The number of elderly people living alone in Uzbekistan has been disclosed. This was reported by the National Social Protection Agency.

It was noted that on September 1, 2023, the "Lonely Elderly" module of the Unified National Social Protection Information System was launched. As of October 1, 2023, the module recorded a total of 18,928 people living alone who needed care, including both elderly and disabled individuals.

Between October 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, 4,647 individuals in need of care were added to the register, while 6,287 were removed. As of August 2024, 17,288 people in need of care are receiving social and household services.

Among them, 7,939 are elderly individuals living alone, 2,306 are disabled individuals living alone, 4,703 are single elderly individuals, and 2,340 are disabled individuals.

Monitoring of the quality of social services and the outcomes of individual social service plans is conducted by employees of the "Inson" social services center, social workers, representatives of the special monitoring group from the district medical association, and the chairpersons of citizens' meetings.

In particular, as a result of the services provided during monitoring, it was observed that the level of dependence on others' assistance decreased and the overall situation improved.
