Uzbekistan ranked low in the media freedom index

According to the 2022 results of the media freedom index of the non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders, Uzbekistan took 133rd place.

It is noted that 179 countries are listed in this rating.  In this rating, the press freedom index of Uzbekistan is 45.74 points, and the country is among the countries with a low level of freedom of speech.

This indicator was assessed as bad by the organization and commented on the freedom of the press in Uzbekistan.

“After the death of the former President of the country, Islam Karimov, the conditions for the mass media have hardly improved, and it remains difficult to criticize the state authorities,” the comment reads.

Also, China, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Iran, Eritrea are among the countries with a low index of media freedom, while Norway, Denmark, Sweden are listed as countries with a high level of press freedom.

Among neighboring countries, Kyrgyzstan is in 72nd place with 64.25 points, and Kazakhstan is in 122nd place with 48.28 points.

Belarus ranked 153rd with a score of 39.62, and Russia ranked 155th with a score of 38.82.
