Recently, Rustamjon Ikramov, head of the Department of Sanitary-Epidemiological Well-being and Public Health Committee, announced that measures against the introduction of monkeypox (M-Pox) into Uzbekistan are being strengthened. The vigilance of sanitary control specialists at international airports, railway stations, and highway border crossings has been increased to prevent the disease from entering and spreading within the country. Does this mean there will be a quarantine in Uzbekistan? QALAMPIR.UZ reached out to the relevant authorities with this question.

We were informed that for any restrictions to be established within the Republic of Uzbekistan, an official quarantine must be declared, and the decision must be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. The Sanitary-Epidemiological Well-being and Public Health Committee must also issue special instructions for implementing such measures.

Additionally, for measures like requiring PCR tests at airports for flights to and from Uzbekistan, school closures, transport restrictions, or a mask mandate, an appropriate government decision is necessary. No such decision has been made at this time.

For your information, on August 14, the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency due to an epidemic spreading from the Democratic Republic of Congo to neighboring countries, marking the highest level of alert.

It should be recalled that earlier reports indicated the virus had been detected in Sweden, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
