In Uzbekistan, taking pictures or videos of individuals without their consent may soon be prohibited. This was discussed today, September 9, during the consideration of a draft law aimed at strengthening the protection of individuals’ image rights by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The draft law notes that in today’s fast-paced information and communication era, personal privacy rights are sometimes insufficiently protected when images of individuals are used, leading to restrictions in certain cases.

Under the proposed legislation, obtaining consent from individuals before filming or using their image would become mandatory. The law also defines minors as independent legal subjects in such matters and outlines the circumstances under which images may be used without consent.

Additionally, the draft law establishes requirements for ensuring personal privacy during video surveillance, specifies legal consequences for unauthorized use of images, and clarifies rules regarding the use of images in employment relationships.

Following extensive discussions and a question-and-answer session, the draft law was approved by deputies in its first reading.
