Uzbekistan aims to produce 10 million tons of coal during the 2025/2026 autumn-winter season, according to a presentation by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on November 18 reviewing coal production results and outlining future priorities.

The report noted that, to ensure uninterrupted energy supply for households, social sector institutions, and key economic sectors during the autumn-winter season, new projects are being implemented across all energy sectors, including the coal industry, with production capacities and output volumes being expanded.

During the 2024/2025 autumn-winter season, nearly 8.7 million tons of coal were extracted and delivered to thermal power plants, budgetary institutions, and households. For the 2025/2026 season, production is planned to increase by 15 percent to reach 10 million tons. To achieve this, the material and technical base of “Uzbekkomir” JSC enterprises has been strengthened, and conditions have been created to expand the activities of additional producers.

The President gave instructions to ensure reliable coal supply to the population throughout the season. Modernization of enterprises, launching new production capacities, fostering market principles and competition in the sector, and reducing production costs were highlighted as key priorities.

The presentation also addressed accelerating new investment projects in uranium, expanding the scope of geological exploration, and introducing modern technologies.

For reference, coal production in Uzbekistan has steadily increased in recent years: 5 million tons in 2021, 5.4 million tons in 2022, 6.5 million tons in 2023, 8.2 million tons in 2024, and 5.6 million tons during January–September 2025.
