Thousands of Uzbek citizens cut off from water due to outstanding debts

Since the beginning of this year, 4,351 illegal connections to drinking and wastewater networks have been identified across Uzbekistan, “Uzsuvta’minot” reported.
These cases were recorded between January and October 2025, with the highest number registered in Tashkent city (488). Following Tashkent were Sirdaryo region (433), the Republic of Karakalpakstan (425), and Khorezm region (419).
Preliminary calculations indicate that these violations caused more than 82 billion UZS in damages to public utilities, of which 33.6 billion UZS have been recovered.
To reduce existing debts, civil and economic courts have received claims worth 358.4 billion UZS this year from 123,400 indebted consumers. Additionally, during the reporting period, 62,400 individual and legal consumers nationwide were disconnected from water supply networks due to unpaid bills. Of these, 46,000 cases—the highest figure—were recorded in Tashkent city.
Compared to the beginning of the year, consumer arrears have decreased by 203 billion UZS, or 22 percent, reaching 705.5 billion UZS. Compared with the same period last year, arrears were reduced by 364 billion UZS, or 34 percent.
