Infant mortality increased in Uzbekistan

8234In 2021, 7,214 babies died in Uzbekistan. This is 160 more than in 2020. This was stated at a meeting of the Senate Council of the Oliy Majlis to study the status of the work carried out to protect reproductive health, motherhood and childhood.
The meeting noted that infant mortality in 2021 was 7,214, an increase of 160 (7,054/7,214) compared to 2020.
In addition, a number of shortcomings were noted in the implementation of the State programme for the early detection of congenital and hereditary diseases in children for 2018-2022.
Also, in order to improve the quality of medical care for pregnant women, women in childbirth, women and newborns, there is a need to strengthen material and the technical base of the country’s obstetric institutions, in accordance with international standards and the necessary medicines must be provided.
As a result of the discussions, appropriate instructions were given to reduce maternal and infant mortality in obstetric institutions, to organize high-quality medical care for women of childbearing age, and to monitor the targeted spending of budgetary funds.
