2024 criminal statistics: Imprisonment and judicial decisions in Uzbekistan

In 2024, 61,481 criminal cases were considered by criminal courts against 77,995 individuals. 20,659 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment, and 39,763 to other types of punishment. The Supreme Court reported this.

It is reported that the number of convicted individuals was 61,502, of which 20,659 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment, 39,763 to other types of punishment, and 1,080 individuals were given suspended sentences. Of the convicted individuals, 54,370 were men, 7,132 were women, 22,757 were young people (including 2,214 minors), and 2,637 were over 60 years of age.

Also, 7,956 persons were released from custody in court due to the imposition of non-custodial sentences, 33,151 were released on parole, 11,581 had their sentences commuted to lighter sentences, and 14,991 had their charges unreasonably brought by the preliminary investigation bodies removed from the indictment or requalified.

In addition, 723 persons were acquitted and rehabilitated. 124 persons (youth, women, etc.) were sentenced to non-custodial sentences based on letters of guarantee.

33,146 persons were released on parole, and 11,581 persons had their sentences commuted to lighter sentences.

The majority of criminal cases investigated during the reporting period were:

• fraud,
• violation of the rules for the safe movement or use of vehicles,
• theft,
• illegal preparation, possession, storage, and other actions of narcotic drugs, their analogs, or psychotropic substances without the purpose of trafficking,
• larceny by embezzlement or embezzlement,
• production of documents, stamps, seals, forms, their forgery, sale, or use,
• intentional infliction of minor bodily harm,
• hooliganism,
• intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm,
• illegal preparation, acquisition, storage, and other actions of narcotic drugs, their analogs, or psychotropic substances with the purpose of trafficking, as well as their illegal trafficking.

It is noted that as a result of the effective application of the institution of reconciliation, 13,434 persons were released from criminal liability.

8,740 criminal cases against 11,992 persons were considered in the appeal procedure. Decisions issued by first-instance courts against 482 persons were canceled, and court decisions issued against 2,598 persons were changed.

4,025 criminal cases against 4,497 persons were considered in the cassation procedure. Decisions issued by first-instance courts against 322 persons were canceled, and court decisions issued against 1,001 persons were changed.

5,048 criminal cases against 5,993 persons were considered in the review procedure. Decisions issued by lower courts against 172 individuals were canceled, and court decisions issued against 700 individuals were changed.

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court reviewed 1,103 criminal cases against 1,269 individuals. Decisions issued by lower courts against 163 individuals were canceled, and court decisions issued against 281 individuals were changed.

It should be recalled that earlier, the Supreme Court reported that in 2024, 390 decisions were canceled and 253 were changed by economic courts in Uzbekistan. In addition, last year, 436,102 cases were considered and resolved by economic courts in the first instance, and court decisions were made to recover 27.5 trillion soums in favor of the plaintiffs.
