Since the beginning of December, very cold weather has been observed in Uzbekistan, and such weather will remain throughout the week.  This was reported by the Hydrometeorological Service Center.

It is noted that the temperature anomaly is connected with a very strong anticyclone that occupies almost all regions of Northern Eurasia.  In the middle of the first ten days, the air temperature in the central regions of the republic dropped to 5-7 degrees at night, in some places to 10 degrees, and during the day to 3-5 degrees.

“Periods of extremely cold weather in December have been observed in our region before.  Short-term waves of cold with a decrease in temperature to such values are recorded almost every year.  Roughly once in every 2-3 years significant frosts were also observed.  In the last 25 years, the temperature in December drops to 10-15 degrees Celsius, and in some places even lower, this was recorded in the Central regions of Uzbekistan in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014.

Even stronger frosts were observed in previous years.  Thus, in Tashkent at the beginning of December 1920, the thermometer dropped to 20 degrees Celsius.  The absolute lowest temperature in December in Tashkent was 29 degrees Celsius, this temperature value was observed on 20 December 1930.

The most severe frosts, as usual, were observed in the northern regions of the republic.  In the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the temperature dropped to 15-20 degrees Celsius at night, and in some northern regions to 22-24 degrees Celsius.  Such temperatures did not set new records for December.  In December during the coldest years in the north of the republic, the minimum temperature dropped to 27-30 degrees Celsius.  On some nights, the temperature in some places dropped to the lowest figure for this date, but this was not a record temperature,” Uzgidromet reported.

It is reported that the cold weather will last until the beginning of next week.

On 9-12 December, the air temperature in most of the territory of the republic will be 5-10 degrees Celsius at night, 0-5 degrees Celsius during the day, 17-22 degrees Celsius at night in the north, up to 24 degrees Celsius in some places on 9-10 December, and around 4-9 degrees Celsius during the day.  .

During these days, the average night temperature is 7-12 degrees lower than the climatic norms of this period.  Thus, when the average temperature is 4 degrees, the average night temperature in Tashkent is 6-8 degrees cold.
