A meeting was held in Ankara between Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Defense Shuhrat Kholmukhamedov, according to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
It was reported that the two defense ministers led bilateral negotiations between the delegations. Following the talks, the ministers signed the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Training and Cooperation in the Field of Military Medicine,” as well as the “Plan for the Implementation of Military Cooperation for 2026 between the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
In addition, on January 20 this year, Türkiye and Uzbekistan will hold the fourth meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group in Ankara. The meeting will be attended by the foreign, defense, and interior ministers of both countries, as well as the heads of their intelligence agencies. The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in economic relations, regional connectivity, energy, and defense.
The negotiations will primarily address bilateral relations, as political ties between Türkiye and Uzbekistan continue to develop at a high level. It is expected that potential measures to further deepen cooperation in trade, the economy, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, and culture will be discussed.
It should be recalled that on December 5, 2025, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a Turkish delegation led by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar. During that meeting, particular attention was paid to advancing new cooperation projects in the fields of energy and geology, including the localization of modern technologies, production of energy equipment, improvement of distribution network management, joint development of promising deposits, and training of qualified personnel for the sector.
