Uzbekistan increases the import of Tajik cotton

In the first half of 2022, Tajikistan exported more than 6,600 tons of cotton worth 17.3 million dollars to Uzbekistan.  This is reported by “Asiaplus”.

According to the publication, this is almost 3.3 times more than in the same period of 2021 ($5.3 million).  In the first half of the year, the total volume of trade turnover between the two countries amounted to more than 285 million dollars.

In particular, Tajikistan exported to Uzbekistan products worth 96 million dollars, and imported goods and services worth 189 million dollars.  The trade balance for Uzbekistan is $93.5 million.

The main goods exported from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan in January-June 2022:
• cotton ($17.3 million),
• cement ($14.1 million),
• electricity ($12.2 million),
• aluminum ($10.6 million).

Tajikistan mainly imported mineral and chemical fertilizers, natural gas, household appliances, clothes and shoes, carpets, tomatoes, watermelons, and silk products from Uzbekistan.

For reference, at the end of June of the current year, during a practical visit to Tajikistan, the delegation of  “O‘zto‘qimachiliksanoat” discussed the prospects of establishing a joint venture for cotton processing with the heads of local authorities of the Khatlon and Sughd regions.
