The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has issued an appeal to Uzbek citizens, including students of Russian higher education institutions located near Ukraine. The Ministry’s press office reports this.

According to the report there was no cause for concern. The Uzbek Embassy in Moscow and the Consulate General in Rostov-Don are in close and constant contact with the relevant ministries and departments of Russia.

It is stated that in the event of any danger to Uzbek citizens, appropriate measures will be taken immediately.
The Ministry specified that, if necessary, citizens may call the following contact numbers:
Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Moscow: +7 499 230-00-76, +7 499 230-00-32;
Consulate General in Rostov-Don: +7 988 586-59-82, +7 918 554-04-76, +7 988 586-70-35, +7 988 586-59-82.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier reported that the Russian military had launched a special operation in Donbass in eastern Ukraine. Putin justified this move with the request of the leaders of the pro-Russian separatist forces in eastern Ukraine.

The Uzbek embassy in Kiev stated after the outbreak of armed conflict that the diplomatic mission was preparing an evacuation plan and a list of citizens willing to leave Ukraine. The Embassy also encouraged Uzbek students studying in Ukraine to consider continuing the education remotely in their countries.
Uzbek airlines cancelled flights to Kiev due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace.
