Uzbekistan defines new requirements for tobacco transit

1503Uzbekistan has outlined new requirements for the transit of tobacco products. The Cabinet of Ministers issued a decision on October 30 titled "On Approval of the Regulation on Customs Control Procedure for Transit of Tobacco Products Through the Republic of Uzbekistan."
Under the new regulation, the authorized person responsible for tobacco product transit must submit preliminary electronic information on the goods and transport, including the following:
- A certificate of origin for the goods, along with its electronic copy;
- An electronic copy of the supply contract or agreement;
- For goods divided and transported in multiple shipments, an electronic copy of the transport schedule;
- Confirmation that customs transit fees have been paid into the customs authority’s deposit account;
- Information verifying that the goods carry the excise stamp of the receiving country unless such a stamp is not legally required.
Preliminary information must be provided exclusively at border customs posts equipped with vehicle inspection systems.
Customs fees for transit are payable in Uzbekistan’s national currency or U.S. dollars and should be deposited into the customs authority’s account. Details of the deposit account are available on the Customs Committee’s official website and at border crossing points.
Refunds for customs fees will be issued to the payer within five working days after the goods are released from customs control.
This regulation took effect on October 31.
