Uzbekistan and Italy strengthen strategic ties through new agreements

Today, May 29, at the conclusion of high-level talks in Samarkand, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy Giorgia Meloni signed a joint declaration aimed at strengthening strategic partnership relations. The press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported the development.

The two leaders also participated in a ceremony marking the exchange of several bilateral agreements signed during the visit. The agreements include:

- An agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments;
- Cooperation in the field of strategically important raw materials;
- Cooperation on migration and freedom of movement;
- Joint work on sustainable development and environmental protection, including the preservation of cultural heritage;
- Partnerships with Italy’s Climate Fund and Agricultural Confederation, as well as cooperation on green development with companies such as Sogesid and Ansaldo;
- Academic partnerships with the universities of Tuscany, Pisa, and Turin.

In addition to these, a number of other documents were signed with the Italian National Research Center, as well as with companies including SIMEST and Danieli, and the University of Perugia.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Samarkand yesterday, May 28, for an official visit. She was personally welcomed at Samarkand International Airport by President Mirziyoyev. Following her arrival, the two leaders visited Registan Square and the historical and ethnographic park “Baqi Shahr” located at the Silk Road Samarkand International Tourism Center. An official welcoming ceremony for Meloni was held earlier today, May 29.

Tomorrow, May 30, the first summit between the heads of Central Asian states and the Prime Minister of Italy will take place in Astana.
