Uzbekistan ranked 4th among the largest exporters of cherries in the world.  This is reported by the analytical portal “EastFruit”.

It is noted that last year, despite heavy rains, Uzbekistan exported 18 thousand tons more cherries than Spain.  This year, cherry exports were the same in both countries.  Technically, Uzbekistan is the 5th largest exporter of cherry in the world, but Hong Kong, the re-export country, is in second place.  Uzbekistan is thus the fourth largest net exporter in the world.

Andriy Yarmak, an economist from the United Nations Centre for Food and Agricultural Investment, believes that Uzbekistan may be a potential supplier of cherries for the European Union and the Middle East.

“In relation to this, on 15 September 2022, 10 large, foreign importers will arrive in Tashkent for negotiations with Uzbeks about exporting cherries and other fresh fruits from Uzbekistan within the framework of the trading mission of the fruit and vegetable project of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development”, - he said.
