Uzbekistan does not recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in eastern Ukraine, controlled by separatists. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov at the 24th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) today, 17 March.

According to the Minister, the situation around Ukraine is of serious concern in Uzbekistan. The official position of Tashkent is to resolve the situation peacefully and settle the conflict through political and diplomatic means. For this, military action and violence must cease immediately.

Historically, Uzbekistan has had traditionally multifaceted relations with both the Russian Federation and Ukraine. And we will continue to support a mutually beneficial cooperation with both countries based on our national interests», – said Kamilov.

He noted that, in these difficult times, Uzbekistan would provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and would continue to provide assistance given the current difficult situation.

In turn, the Minister stressed that the Republic of Uzbekistan recognizes the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and does not recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic.
