Uzbekistan’s total debt exceeds $26 billion

13018As of 1 January, the total debt of the State amounted to $26.3 billion. This was stated in the survey of the status and trends of Uzbekistan’s public debt for 2021.
It was noted that the State’s external debt was $23.6 billion, domestic debt $2.7 billion, or 38 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
The ratio of public debt to GDP fell from 39% at the beginning of 2021 to 38% on 1 January 2022.
In spite of the fact that total debt increased by $2.9 billion in 2021, the ratio of public debt to GDP declined because of rapid GDP growth in United States dollars, or $9.4 billion.
According to the report of the International Monetary Fund on the economy of the country, the total debt of Uzbekistan is now considered «moderate».
Despite rising total debt, macroeconomic stability remains strong.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Uzbekistan’s total public debt will reach $33.5 billion by 2022.
