3358Uzbekistan has expressed support for the US initiative to establish a ceasefire, release hostages, and restore peace in the Gaza Strip. Ahror Burkhonov, the press secretary of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed this stance.
"We are closely monitoring the conflict in the Gaza Strip, where civilians, especially women and children, are suffering. This situation deeply concerns us. Uzbekistan is committed to resolving conflicts peacefully through diplomatic means.
In this context, international efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution are crucial. We welcome the initiatives of all countries, including the US, to maintain a ceasefire, release hostages, and restore peace.
We urge all parties to exercise restraint, respect international law, avoid violence, and prevent further civilian casualties," stated the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On May 31, US President Joe Biden proposed a three-step plan to de-escalate tensions in the Gaza Strip. The first phase, lasting six weeks, involves a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of hostages, including women, the elderly, the wounded, and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
During this six-week truce, Israel and Hamas are expected to negotiate conditions for moving to the second phase of the agreement. The second phase includes the release of all remaining hostages, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and the establishment of a permanent ceasefire. The third phase involves the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
