Uzbekistan delivers humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

4513Following the directive of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has sent a convoy of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan’s Balkh region via the "Ayritom" border crossing. This initiative aims to support those affected by severe floods in Afghanistan, providing essential supplies such as food and tools. The Surkhandarya regional government's press service reported this development.
The aid package includes 48 tons of flour, 22 tons of rice, 100,000 canned goods, 44 tons of pasta, 25,000 liters of vegetable oil, 100,000 instant meals, 100 tents equipped for ten people each, and 96 water storage containers of 1,000 liters each.
A handover ceremony took place at the Astras company premises in Hayraton. Key attendees included Ismatulla Irgashev, the President's special representative for Afghanistan, Sherzod Rajabov, the first deputy governor of Surkhandarya, and officials from the Balkh region.
Afghan representatives expressed their gratitude to President Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan for their timely assistance during this challenging period.
On May 18, heavy rains and flooding in Afghanistan resulted in the complete destruction of 2,000 houses, partial damage to 4,000 houses, flooding of more than 2,000 shops, and the death of at least 50 people in Feroz-Koh.
