Earlier, it was reported that the Taliban’s interim government in Afghanistan removed an Uzbek-language inscription from the facade of Samangan University, located in one of the regions with a large Uzbek population, triggering public backlash. In response to the situation, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Akhror Burkhanov commented on the matter to QALAMPIR.UZ.
Answering questions from the editorial staff, Burkhanov emphasized that the situation in Afghanistan is being monitored on an ongoing and attentive basis. According to him, any potential restrictions on the Uzbek language are a cause for serious concern.
“Any possible restrictions on the use of the Uzbek language naturally raise concerns for us. In this regard, regular dialogue on these issues is being maintained with the Afghan side,” he said.
According to Burkhanov, the Afghan side has stated in turn that no restrictions have been imposed on the use of the Uzbek language and that no such measures are planned in the future. They have also emphasized their deep respect for the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek language, and the Uzbek people.
