In Namangan Region, individuals who illegally crossed the Uzbek–Kyrgyz border and attempted to bring sheep from Kyrgyzstan into Uzbekistan have been detained. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the ministry, during joint оперативно-preventive measures carried out on January 20 this year, officers of the Namangan Regional Department of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, and the Kosonsoy District Department of Internal Affairs detained a criminal group that had been regularly engaged in illegally crossing the state border and smuggling goods and people.

It was established that a resident of the Abdurahmon Jomiy neighborhood in Kosonsoy District, together with four acquaintances from the “Gulbog” and “Chorbog” neighborhoods of the same district, illegally crossed the barbed-wire section of the state border with Kyrgyzstan in the “Bahoriston” neighborhood. They then went to a contact living in the “Baimok” village of the Alovuka District of Kyrgyzstan, intending to illegally transport sheep into Uzbekistan.

However, the parties failed to reach an agreement, and the Kyrgyz citizen refused to hand over the livestock, instead leading the group to a section of the Kyrgyz–Uzbek border adjacent to the “Rovot” neighborhood of Kosonsoy District.

As the five offenders were illegally crossing the barbed-wire section of the Uzbek–Kyrgyz state border into the “Rovot” neighborhood, they were detained by operational officers and border troops.

It was reported that a criminal case has been initiated by the investigative unit of the Kosonsoy District Department of Internal Affairs under Part 2 of Article 223 of the Criminal Code (Illegal exit from or entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan). Preliminary investigative actions are currently under way.

Earlier, it was reported that in Fergana, the head of a customs post was detained for demanding $5,000 in exchange for allowing 80 mobile phones to be smuggled across the border without inspection or customs payments.
