On 29 August, the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev put a capsule in the foundation of the town of Al-Khorezmi in Urgench.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev became acquainted with this project during a visit to the region in March of the current year and gave instructions on its improvement.  Based on these, the response to the project began today - on the eve of Independence Day.

The ceremony was attended by elders of Khorezm, women, and youth.  The president communicated with them.

“The basis of today’s modern science and electronic discoveries is connected with the unparalleled scientific heritage of our grandfather Al-Khorezmi.  We must not only be proud of it, but we must earn it.  Therefore, we have decided to create a separate town in Urgench named after the great scientist," - our head of state said.

This complex will be built next to the international Urgench airport, on an area of more than 130 hectares. This beautiful place is the first thing that catches the eye of anyone who get off the plane.  A huge statue of Al-Khorezmi will be installed in the center of the city.

Most importantly, a new university named after Al-Khorezmi will be established here.  A specialized school for talented children will be built here.  The young people who study there will continue the traditions of the great scientist, working in the centers of science, innovation, and culture established in the city.

In addition, there will be a techno-park, offices, and medical, innovation, and cultural centers, boulevards, schools and kindergartens, sports complexes, parking lots, shopping, and household buildings. 104 apartment buildings for 5000 apartments will be built.  Facilities will be equipped on the basis of “smart technologies”.

The Head of State congratulated the builders of the complex on Independence Day and wished them success in responsible and honorable work.

The president then concluded his visit to Khorezm and returned to Tashkent.
