Urgench International Airport in Uzbekistan’s Khorezm Region will undergo modernization. The project aims to expand the airport’s infrastructure, improve the quality of passenger and cargo services, and enhance logistics capabilities in order to elevate the region’s transport potential to a new level. The plans were discussed on January 14 during a presentation reviewed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on construction projects focused on developing tourism, transport, and social infrastructure.

It was noted that Uzbekistan’s high economic growth rates and the country’s active foreign policy have led to expanded international cooperation, with the country increasingly emerging as a business and tourism hub. This, in turn, requires proportional development of infrastructure. As a result, special attention is being paid to the construction of modern transport networks, service facilities, and public buildings.

The presentation reviewed development plans across various regions.

In particular, plans were announced to build a Congress Center and a historical and ethnographic park in the city of Khiva. These facilities are expected to support the hosting of major international events and increase tourist inflows to the city.

The construction of a Confucius Institute and a Luban Workshop was also discussed, with the facilities set to host cultural and educational events and provide opportunities for young people to acquire modern professional skills.

As part of the modernization of Urgench International Airport, its infrastructure will be expanded, while improvements to passenger and cargo services and logistics capacity are expected to significantly boost the region’s transport potential.

In addition, the construction of a dedicated railway line from Urgench railway station to the upgraded airport is planned, which is expected to further improve convenience for passengers. Plans were also presented to renovate and landscape the existing Urgench–Khiva highway, as well as to build a new alternative road.

A project to build an expo center in Fergana was also discussed. The complex is expected to provide facilities for international exhibitions, business forums, and major events, thereby increasing the region’s investment attractiveness.

The presentation also included a proposal to establish the Burhaniddin Margilani Research Center. The center is expected to develop international-level activities in the fields of spiritual heritage and scientific research, as well as to form a modern academic school.

Proposals to construct a new, modern campus for Bukhara State University were also reviewed, with emphasis placed on creating a comfortable educational and research environment for faculty members and students.

One of the planned projects is the construction of a modern rhythmic gymnastics complex in Tashkent. The center will create the necessary conditions to nurture young talent and train professional rhythmic gymnasts.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to quality, convenience, and modern standards in implementing the projects, enhancing urban development culture, and taking public needs into account. He issued relevant instructions to responsible officials.
