In Uzbekistan, it was found that 22 different types of table salt do not meet standard requirements.  This list was published by the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights.

According to the list, the committee tested 29 samples of salt products in Uzbekistan, and according to the test results, it was found that the amount of iodine in 22 types of table salt is insufficient.

Control over a total of 441 products by the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan along with regional bodies in cooperation with the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Peace and Public Health of Uzbekistan, and the Technical Regulatory Agency of Uzbekistan made purchases, and consequently, 103 products were found to be technically non-compliant with regulatory documents.

In particular, the committee carried out such a control purchase of table salt.  29 samples of salt products were tested.  It is alarming that 76 percent of 22 types of table salt were found to be non-compliant with current requirements according to laboratory results.

The list of table salts with a low content of iodine is as follows:

"Ideal" table salt;
"Dunyo" table salt;
"Sakhavat" table salt;
"Kafolat" table salt;
"Safo" table salt;
"Ozoda-uz" table salt;
Baraka salt;
"Chef" table salt;
"Arol" table salt;
"One Trust" table salt;
"Safir" table salt;
"Fine silver salt";
"Salina" table salt;
"Asia" table salt;
"Melkaya" table salt;
"Table salt";
"Faizli" table salt.

For information, by the requirements of the regulatory document in force in Uzbekistan - state standard No. 1091 adopted in 2017, the packaging of salt products must contain the following information:

- product name, type, and size;
- the name of the memorized suffix;
- the content of iodine;
- net weight (kg);
- production date (day, month, year);
-Best before;
- storage conditions;
- other information specified in this standard.

However, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has also identified table salt whose value does not meet these requirements.

For example, it was known that the appearance of "Saodat" table salt does not meet the requirements of this regulatory document.

Also, it was found that "Fayzli" table salt does not have a production date.  Appropriate actions have been taken by the competent authorities to eliminate these shortcomings and prevent them from happening in the future.

"It is reported that the committee and its regional bodies, in turn, will continue the systematic studies as above, and will continue to take measures to prevent the violation of the rights of an indefinite number of consumers and to take measures to compensate for the damage caused," The committee said.

In addition, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights appealed to consumers to be careful when purchasing food products.

"When purchasing food products, pay attention to the fact that they have not been stored in the sun, the quality of the product, the availability of information on the outer packaging, and the sanitary-epidemiological conclusion of the documents confirming the conformity of this product, and then purchase, if the seller does not comply with the above, if the information is not provided, you are requested to report to the 1159 "Call Center" of the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan,  or to e-mail [email protected], which is available 24/7," The organization called for citizens to be aware.

In addition, it was added that this information is current as of the date of the inspection.

For information, table salts produced and sold in the Republic of Uzbekistan must be memorized.  This is one of the measures aimed at preventing iodine deficiency diseases in the country.  A lack of iodine in the human body may result in thyroid diseases.
