The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) will allocate about 5 billion som (about 450 thousand dollars) for the repair of the ancient Djami Mosque in the Bukhara fortress of Ark.  This is reported by the press service under the Agency of Cultural Heritage.

"The Turkish side has planned to allocate 4.5-5 billion som for the restoration of the 18th century mosque, one of the historical and architectural monuments of ancient Bukhara," – the report says.

According to experts, it is necessary to clean the roof of the mosque, repair the cracks in the beams and replace the damaged columns.  In addition, structures on the porch roofs from the north, east and south sides, framing (sarrov), wooden strips (vassa) and beams are rotten and need to be cleaned manually.

In addition, it will be necessary to clean the entrances and columns, eliminate the cracks, as well as to restore and install two columns on the northern facade.

In the past, various repairs were carried out, during which, important parts of the mosque were damaged.  In particular, gesso carving works on the walls of the mosque and narthex – the ornaments of daxana, rax, zanjira, davripoyi, ruta, kitoba sharefa, arched–were “water emulsified” several times on the surface, and some parts were colored with “chalk whitewash” (melovaya pobelka).  As a result, the ornaments were covered and the necessary money was raised to restore its historical significance during the restoration work.

The decorations, ornaments and carving works are planned to be repaired, re-cleaned and restored.

For reference, this year 34 sites of cultural heritage will be subject to restoration in Uzbekistan.  It is planned to spend 75 billion som for it from the state budget.
