On June 28, a horrific road accident in Tajikistan claimed the lives of seven people and left three others injured. Among the deceased were two brothers from Uzbekistan, according to a report by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
The ministry confirmed that five of the victims were members of the same family from the city of Istiqbol in Tajikistan. The other two victims were Uzbek nationals—brothers. The Sughd regional Department of Internal Affairs noted that minors were also among the victims.
The tragic incident occurred in the Dadaboy Holmatov rural community along the Dushanbe–Khujand–Chanak highway. The crash involved three vehicles: a Volkswagen driven by an Uzbek citizen, a Toyota operated by a resident of the Maschoh district, and a Mercedes driven by a resident of Khujand.
Initial reports indicate that the Volkswagen first collided with the Toyota. After the impact, the Volkswagen veered off the road and subsequently crashed into the Mercedes.
As a result, seven passengers, including the Uzbek siblings, died at the scene. Three others sustained injuries, including the driver of the Volkswagen (an Uzbek citizen) and two passengers from the Maschoh district—one of whom is a minor. All injured individuals were hospitalized, and their current condition remains unknown.
As a reminder, in a separate incident earlier this year, an Uzbek citizen was left in a coma after a traffic accident in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The victim was admitted to the intensive care unit of the National Hospital.
