Man was sentenced to 23 years for ax murder in Tashkent

A man convicted of killing a woman with an ax in Tashkent has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, according to Aziz Obidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court.

The crime occurred in an apartment in the Yashnobod district. The perpetrator, born in 1991 and previously convicted, went to the "Qoyliq" market to find work. There, he met a woman born in 1984.

According to the defendant, he and the woman went to her apartment in the Yashnabad district. A quarrel ensued, during which he struck the woman with an ax and then strangled her with clothing.

"I was afraid she would scratch my face and blackmail me. That's why I killed her," said the defendant.

After the murder, the man took the victim's phone and money and fled the scene.

"The defendant was sentenced to 23 years' imprisonment in the Yashnobod district court for criminal cases, accused of having committed the crime provided for in Article 97 (intentional murder) and Article 164 (invasion) of the Criminal Code," the report says.

Previously, in the Payariq district of the Samarkand region, a man fatally stabbed his 62-year-old father-in-law and 60-year-old mother-in-law at his wife's home.
