A driver who fatally struck a 9-year-old schoolgirl in Tashkent has been sentenced to four years in prison. The tragic incident occurred on September 19, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the Sergeli district of the capital.

The case was reviewed by the Sergeli District Court for Criminal Cases, which found the defendant guilty under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code—violation of traffic rules or vehicle safety that causes death.

According to the “Millar” television program, the driver was operating a BYD vehicle at the time of the accident. In addition to the prison sentence, the individual has been banned from driving all types of vehicles for two years.

This incident has reignited public concern about pedestrian safety and road discipline in urban areas, particularly around school zones.

It is worth noting that another fatal traffic accident occurred earlier this year. On May 2, a Lacetti car struck a pedestrian in Tashkent’s Yakkasaroy district. The victim later died in the hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to observe all traffic regulations and exercise extra caution near schools and pedestrian crossings.
