A legal consultant in the Bekobod district of the Tashkent region was caught accepting a bribe of $8,400, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, in December 2024, during a prosecution-led inspection of a newly commissioned preschool building in the Bekobod district, a shortfall of 176 million soums was discovered. A criminal case under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or misappropriation) was opened against the officials of the company responsible for the construction, and a documented investigative inspection was assigned.

Learning of this, the chief legal consultant of the Tashkent region's ’’Single Customer Service’’ state institution demanded $8,400 from the company’s director through his official contacts in exchange for ensuring a positive outcome of the inspection.

During an operational investigation, the chief legal consultant was caught in the act of receiving the agreed sum. A criminal case was opened against him under Article 168, Part 3, Clause ’’v’’ (fraud) and Articles 28 and 211, Part 1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, and he was placed in pretrial detention.

It is worth noting that earlier, an employee of the Compulsory Enforcement Bureau was arrested for accepting a $500 bribe in the Samarkand region.
